Hawker Hurricane Mk.I

Introduced into active service in 1937, Hurricane is currently the major fighter plane in Royal Air Force, though it is slowly being replaced by a new Spitfire. Hurricane indeed cannot boasts the impressive velocities of Spitfire, but flown by a skilful pilot it remains a dangerous weapon, particularly since its manoeuvrability and sturdy construction is better than Spitfire's.

Type: Interceptor
Maximum speed: 520 km/h
Manoeuvrability: Good
Armour: Average
Armament: 8 x Browning machine gun 7.7mm
Payload: 8 x rocket RP-3, 2 x bomb 250 kg

Supermarine Spitfire Ski

Introduced into active service in 1938, Spitfire is indisputably the best fighter in the world. It combines a high top speed and unbelievable manoeuvrability. As a new plane, it is available only in small quantities but, as its production increases, it is going to replace Hurricane crafts in all interceptor squadrons.

Type: Interceptor
Maximum speed: 570 km/h
Manoeuvrability: Excellent
Armour: Light
Armament: 8 x 7.7mm Browning machine guns
Combat load: 8 x rocket RP-3, 2 x bomb 250 kg

Hawker Tornado

A prototype fighter resembling Hurricane but more heavily armed and equipped with an extremely powerful Rolls-Royce Vulture V engine. This engine is the main advantage of the plane but it puts its future in jeopardy due to its high unreliability. After solving this problem the plane will be put into a mass production as a fast interceptor.

Type: Prototype Fighter
Maximum speed: 660 km/h
Manoeuvrability: Average
Armour: Very Light
Armament: 12 x 7.7mm Browning machine guns
Combat load: 12 x rocket RP-3, 4 x bomb 250 kg

Westland Whirlwind

Recently introduced into active service, Whirlwind is an awesome heavy fighter, heavily armed and surprisingly fast as for a plane of its type. However, as in the case of all heavy fighters, Whirlwind's manoeuvrability is not too high and in contrary to Bf-110 - its counterpart in Luftwaffe - it does not have a rear gunner.

Type: Heavy Fighter
Maximum speed: 580 km/h
Manoeuvrability: Low
Armour: Heavy
Armament: 4 x 20mm Hispano cannon
Combat load: 12 x rocket RP-3, 6 x bomb 250 kg or 3 x torpedo 500 kg

Handley Page Halifax

Tested in 1939, Halifax is one of our most modern heavy bombers. With a crew of 7 men, 4 engines, 2 rotary turrets and a single front gun fixed in the plane's nose, Halifax is a perfect for long-range bombing runs.

Type: Heavy Bomber
Maximum speed: 420 km/h
Manoeuvrability: Very Low
Armour: Very Heavy
Front gunner armament: 1 x 7.7mm Browning machine gun
Upper turret armament: 4 x 7.7mm Browning machine guns
Rear turret armament: 4 x 7.7mm Browning machine guns
Combat load: up to 6000kg bombs

Messerschmitt BF-109E

Introduced into active service in 1937, Messerschmitt Bf-109 was once the best fighter in the world. Unfortunately its age is being more and more visible. A good Spitfire pilot can easily defeat Messerschmitt. However, it's better to be careful fighting against it since it's being constantly improved and its most recent "E" version is a major threat. What's more, the plane is armed with 20mm cannons which make it superior in terms of armament.

Type: Interceptor
Maximum speed: 560 km/h
Manoeuvrability: Good
Armour: Light
Armament: 2 x 20 mm MG-FF/M cannons, 2 x 7,92 mm MG-17 machine guns
Combat payload: 8 x rocket

Messerschmitt BF-110C

Introduced into active service in 1937, Messerschmitt Bf-110C is a typical heavy fighter - with a poor manoeuvrability, heavy armour and powerful armament including a rear gunner. In practice, this plane turned out to be much weaker than what Luftwaffe propaganda claimed. Still, it is a very dangerous opponent especially when flown by an experienced pilot.

Type: Heavy Fighter
Maximum speed: 520 km/h
Manoeuvrability: Poor
Armour: Heavy
Armament: 2 x 20 mm MG-FF/M cannons, 4 x MG-17 7,92 mm machine guns
Rear gunner armament: 1 x 7,92 mm MG-17 machine gun
Combat load: 12 x rocket, 6 x bomb 250 kg

Junkers Ju-87B 'Stuka'

Introduced into active service in 1936, Junkers Ju-87 was once an awesome dive bomber. The times have changed however, and Stuka is no longer so impressive. Still, it can be very dangerous for lightly armoured ground targets. Stuka does not have a chance against modern fighters but can be a little bit dangerous for green pilots who forget about its rear gunner.

Type: Dive Bomber
Maximum speed: 350 km/h
Manoeuvrability: Poor
Armour: Average
Armament: 2 x 7,92 mm MG-17 machine guns
Rear gunner armament: 1 x 7,92 mm MG-17 machine gun
Combat load: 12 x rocket, 6 x bomb 250 kg or 2 x torpedo 500 kg

Heinkel He-111H

He-111 was built in 1935 as a fast airliner and only afterwards secretly redesigned to a combat version as a medium bomber. As a bomber plane He-111 does not a chance against fighters but still can be dangerous especially if flying in a formation. The plane is equipped with guns capable of firing in any direction what makes getting close to it very hard.

Type: Medium Bomber
Maximum speed: 430 km/h
Manoeuvrability: Poor
Armour: Very Heavy
Armament: 6 x 7,92 mm MG-17 machine guns
Front gunner armament: 1 x 20 mm MG-FF/M cannon
Top gunner armament: 1 x 13 mm MG-131 machine gun
Bottom gunner armament: 1 x 7,92 mm MG-17 machine gun
Combat load: 8 x rocket, up to 2000kg bomb

Junkers Ju-88A

Introduced into active service in 1936, Ju-88 is the first Luftwaffe plane designed from scratch as a bomber (both He-111 and Dornier Do-17 were civilian designs). Designed as a fast, medium bomber this versatile plane is used as a torpedo bomber, reconnaissance aircraft and even as a dive bomber for close-support of ground troops.

Type: Medium Bomber
Maximum speed: 475 km/h
Manoeuvrability: Poor
Armour: Very Heavy
Front gunner armament: 1 x 7,92 mm MG-17 machine gun
Top gunner armament: 1 x 7,92 mm MG-17 machine gun
Bottom gunner armament: 1 x 7,92 mm MG-17 machine gun
Combat load: 8 x rocket, up to 2500kg bomb or 4 x torpedo 500 kg
