What’s PEGI?
Pan European Game Information (PEGI) is a content rating system of interactive video games. It was developed to protect minors against productions with content inappropriate for their age group. The system was created in cooperation with the biggest manufacturers of video consoles, such as PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo, as well as with game publishers and distributors. Prepared by ISFE (Interactive Software Federation of Europe), it immediately faced an enthusiastic reaction on the part of the European Commission, which claims that it is a shining example of a harmonization scheme aimed at protecting the under-aged.
Introduced in the early spring of 2003, PEGI replaced local rating systems with a system uniform for the majority of EU countries. Appropriate age categories are placed on the game’s cover and the vendors should provide additional information.
